Frequently asked

EV Chargers FAQ

How fast is a 7kW home charger?

Adds around 40 km of range per hour — full charge of a 60kWh battery in 8–9 hours (perfect overnight).

Do I need three-phase power?

No. Standard single-phase 7kW chargers work for 99% of Irish homes and match all mainstream EVs' AC charging limit.

Can I charge only from solar surplus?

Yes — with a solar-aware charger (e.g. Zappi, Wallbox Pulsar with EDDI), the unit modulates output to match live solar export, using zero grid power when possible.

What's the SEAI grant eligibility?

€300 for homeowners installing a first EV home charger, provided the property has off-street parking and the applicant owns or has ordered an EV (or PHEV).

How much does it cost to charge an EV at home?

On a night-rate tariff (~8c/kWh), a full 60kWh charge costs around €4.80 — enough for 300+ km. That's roughly €0.02/km vs €0.15/km for a diesel.
